April is National Poetry Month! Join us to celebrate and practice writing this beautiful literary form in a 3 part workshop series led by poet, teaching artist, and rapper Sean Avery Medlin (he/they). Writers of all experience levels are welcomed. Open to teens ages 15+ and adults.

Ancestral Affirmations is a Creative Writing workshop for poets and nonfiction writers. Participants will think about writing as a form of healing. By drawing upon the memory, honor, and admiration of our “ancestors” (participants will get to define the parameters of that term themselves), we will begin works that both affirm and continue the legacies of our most cherished predecessors.

Sean Avery Medlin (he/they) writes poems, raps, and sometimes essays. Their art questions the limitations of Black masculinity, media representation, and personal narrative. Their work has been featured in Phoenix New TimesChicago Tribune and Teen Vogue. All their work is available online at superseanavery.com. Medlin is the author of 808s & Otherworlds: Memories, Remixes, & Mythologies (2021) a collection of essays and poetry, available in print, digital, and audiobook.
