Program Description

Event Details

Families are invited to share a joyful, hands-on musical experience with Baba Shibambo and Connie Avery during their African Music and Arts Village residency at the Glendale Public Library. Designed for children and their caregivers, this interactive workshop introduces traditional African music through rhythm, movement, instruments, and call-and-response activities that inspire creativity and connection. Led by Baba and Connie’s engaging teaching style, the experience brings generations together to explore culture, build community, and create lasting memories.

Participants will also have the unique opportunity to apply what they’ve learned by performing alongside Baba and Connie at the residency’s grand finale concert on Sunday, July 19 from 2-4 p.m.—becoming an integral part of the village and its shared celebration of rhythm, culture, and unity.
