Program Description

Event Details

Join us for a vibrant and energetic dance experience inspired by the colorful, rhythmic styles seen in Indian cinema. Bollywood dance typically combines elements of traditional Indian dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Odissi with contemporary, pop, and folk styles. We will focus on the emotions and storytelling that Bollywood dances convey. All abilities and experience levels welcome! Let's dance! Open to families and adults.

Dancer and theatre artist Hira Ismail sincerely enjoys bringing stories to life. She was a Seed Resident Artist in 2024 with Phoenix's [nue]Box dance company, and played Medea in an ensemble dance theatre production with Small Dance Collective. She has completed 8 months of the Intensive Training Program at Nritya Shakti Dance Institute and worked six years as a teaching artist for the Mesa Arts Center. Her Bollywood Dance workshops have been a popular part of one-n-ten's Camp OUTdoors program and of Anytown Camp. Hira spent a year in New York with SITI Company as an actor in their Acting Conservatory, focusing on Viewpoints and the Suzuki Method.
